KWUA has written to federal and state scientists to re-iterate its request for pragmatic approaches to reduce fish disease that can affect Klamath River salmon. In a letter last week, KWUA Deputy Director Mark Johnson explained that uncertainties about the benefits of gutting spawned-out fish in connection with carcass survey should not stand in the way of pursuing this practical approach: “….approaches based on water management have been imposed without proof of benefit. It concerns us that the approaches based on water releases are far too easy in implementation and too indifferent in consideration of their negative impacts.”
